I can't reproduce your problem.
Looking at that error message, it's possible your command isn't quite right. It should be something like this (using your path):

loadPlugin -qt "C:/Users/YOURNAME/Documents/AnimSchoolPicker/AnimSchoolPickerPC/2016_64bit/AnimschoolPicker.mll";

Hello. I wasn't able to reproduce this issue after trying different things. And I'm not sure what could cause that.
Have you tried reloading the scene or restarting Maya?
Maybe you can use ATOM to transfer the animation to a new reference.

In the Reference Editor, select the reference and then use the menu to "Import Objects from Reference" or something like that.
That will break the link between the reference file and sometimes may help problems like this.

Regarding that script, of course you'd need to change the namespace to ex: malcolm_v200:

You should be referencing him in, not importing him. Also, are you using Maya's Motion Trail? If you ever use it in a scene, it will make your graph editor very slow when using a complex rig. you have to restart maya to get the speed back. Select the shirt and see the operators for it. The tweak, the skinCluster, the blendshape. Turn each one off in turn (set envelope to 0) and see which one fixes the problem. Let me know which it is.

The more typical workflow is to make the picker with the REFERENCED character in a scene. That way it can be reused with any referenced namespace character by using:
